No historian, Muslim or non-Muslim, can be found who would claim that the Prophet (SA) had been taught to read or write by anyone in his childhood or youth, let alone during his old age, which was the time of his mission. Some of the Salient Characteristics of the Prophet's Personality

Truly, even thinking about the Prophet (S) is extremely difficult and awe inspiring. A great personage like Ali (A) said: "Whenever we found the situation to be grave, we used to take refuge in the Prophet of God and sought the shelter of his presence in order to feel safe and protected in his loving company". How sublime and lofty was the personality of this great man. It is quite natural that our limited and little minds are unable to realize this greatness. The tools and criteria that we have to evaluate and measure men by, fail to assess and understand such a great being. Hence, we are compelled to understand him within the limits imposed on our intellects.

LIGHTS ON THE MUHAMMADAN SUNNAH or DEFENCE OF THE HADITH by Mahmud Ali Riyyah .exe

It is truly a languished journey on a way of tearing asunder the covers that defamed – whether deliberately or unknowingly – the character of our master Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and benediction be upon him and his Progeny). We will never draw the long-bow when claiming that the book Adwa’ `ala al-Sunnah al-Muhammadiyyah (Lights on the Muhammadan Sunnah) is a bomb among a bulky heap of falsified and fabricated traditions, which will act to unveil the truth of the greatest man history has ever known of.
This book is, undoubtedly, a brave and intrepid dedication for defending the Messenger of humankind, Muhammad (may God’s peace and benediction be upon him and his Progeny). Its author’s position can never be more than a sincere companion undertaking the task of defending his Prophet in the Battle of Uhud or Hunayn.

THE AWAITED SAVIOR Questions and Answers.exe

One of the main reasons for choosing this subject is the confusion and misunderstanding about Al-Mahdi (as) that exists within academia. We may illustrate this with a comparison of two texts: one written by a Shi'ah scholar and the other from a non-Muslim academic dictionary.
The first text is quoted from the famous book "The Faith of Shi'ah Islam" by the late Ayatullah Muzaffar:    We believe that the Imams (leaders) who are the rightful successors of the Prophet of Islam and from whom we obtain guidance in religious matters are twelve in number ... [the twelfth is] Imam Muhammed ibn Al-Hassan Al-Mahdi (as) (255 AH - still alive). The Twelfth Imam is the Imam of our time and he is the proof of Allah. May Allah hasten his reappearance so that he may establish justice on this Earth which has been filled with gross injustice and oppression.

He was similar to prophet Mohammed, may Allah bless him and his family, in his true resolution and his good manners. His good tendencies and his spiritual abilities are limitless. In the history of this world, it is enough for him that only he has been called Zayn al -'Abidin. This nick-name has been not given to any one except him.

The Twelve Successors of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his Progeny) by Sayyid Murtada al-'Askari.exe

Some of the controversial issues have divided the Muslims. These issues have been misused by the enemies of Islam to divide the Muslims and to weaken them. Therefore, in order to unite the Muslims and to defend the boundaries of Islam it is necessary to clear the misunderstandings regarding these differences. In sorting out these issues we have been ordered to confine ourselves within some limits. As the Almighty Allah says:  "And obey Allah and His Apostle and so not quarrel for then you will be weak in hearts and your power will depart..." (Sura Anfal 8 : 46)

Burial Rituals by Muhammadhusien Kermali.exe

Death is a reality. The Qur'an in Surah 3:185 says, "Every person (nafs) will taste death, ....." (taste can be either sweet or bitter!). At another place (Surah 31:34) the Qur'an says, "... no one knows (where) in what land (or place) he will die". Still at another place (Surah 63:11) the Qur'an says, "Allah does not give any breather (or let up) to anyone for death when its fixed time comes." Therefore, one should not dread death but take it as crossing the bridge from this temporary life to the permanent, everlasting life. So, what should be done when one is confronted with it?

Full-Length Text Inquiries about Islam by Shaykh Mohamad Jawad Chirri .exe
An exchange of letters that took place between the Muslim scholar, Imam Mohamad Jawad Chirri, and Dr. Wilson H. Guertin, that led Dr. Guertin to accept Islam. Writes Dr. Guertin: "If you are a Muslim, read this book out of the obligation to acquire knowledge. If you are a Jew or Christian, read it for the same devout motive. Comparative study of religions may be unsettling if your belief in God is based upon non-rational grounds but can only have the ultimately desired result of strengthening your belief. The pervasive belief in God as represented in our motives must be the goal which our religious educators work toward, with gains in sectarian support becoming quite secondary... If you are unable to say that you believe in God, you can still find value in the study of religion. In the following pages of dialogue, you will be pursuing some of the most important concerns of mankind that can be traced back to the beginning of recorded history. The thoughts and historical events are important in their own right, and perhaps you will, as I have, find the way to a belief in God through them."

He was among the leading Imams of the House (ahl al-Bayt) peace be on them. He was among the most prominent of the men of thought and knowledge in Islam. The historians have unanimously agreed on his importance. For he played an important role in proclaiming the Islamic culture and founding the scientific movements in Islam . He dedicated himself to spread knowledge among the Moslems. that was when the intellectual lull included all the Islamic world, and when there was no scientific or intellectual renaissance. The Moslems led successive revolutions and popular uprisings. They sometimes wanted to get rid of the oppressive Umyyad regime, and they sometimes wanted to take the reins of government. Accordingly, they thoroughly neglected the scientific life. Thus, it had no existence in the arena of life.

There are numerous books written by Shi'ite scholars about those doctrines, and those books are available.

Ethics is the discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right and wrong. It occupies a remarkable position among the other disciplines because of its significant subject and high principle. The noble traits are the only means that achieves the high senses of humanity and perfection. The bad manners, on the other hand, deform man and line him up with beasts. Not only do moralities have influence on individuals, but also they creep into nations to reflect their modes of life and levels of development or retraction. Many historical events have proved that moral corruption has been the destructive axe that ruined civilizations.

Marriage & Morals in Islam by Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi.exe

"...Writers do not normally have to justify their subject. If they think that what they are writing will be useful to the people in their practical life or in their intellectual pursuit, then they feel no need to justify their work. The present book has both qualities: it is useful and of intellectual interest. But there are many people, even among the Muslims, who think that sex is a taboo subject in all religions. Therefore, it seems very appropriate to begin with the question: Is discussion of sexual morality allowed in Islam?
To answer this question on has to look at the definition of religion from the Islamic point of view. Anyone who has studied Islam even on surface can easily know that "religion" in Islamic definition is "a complete system of life" which covers all aspects of human life -from the day a person is conceived up to the day he or she is laid in grave. Islam is not only concerned with the spiritual upliftment of human beings, it is equally concerned about their material and physical well-being."

This is the topic for our discussion this morning.

Hajj is one of the basic principles of the religion; its performance is one of its essentials, and its non-performance, after recognition of it being obligatory, is a grave sin. Denial of the obligatory nature of Hajj, when there is no room for any doubt about it, is blasphemy (kufr). Allah states in the Holy Quran, "Allah has made it obligatory on those who can afford and are able to make the journey to perform the pilgrimage; and if anybody denies it, then Allah is above all the universes. Salaat (Namaz) for Beginners (Transliteration and Translation) - Namaz Guide with Drawings - .exe

Salaat is the arabic name for the obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day.

The five-time prayers become obligatory from the moment a person embraces Islam. This is an extremely important tenet of Islam and has been enjoined with great emphasis in the Holy Quran. It is a form of worship which establishes the link between man and his Creator and Benefactor, Allah. Through Salaat a person communes with his Lord, the Creator and the Sustainer of the Universe. Just as performing Salaat is obligatory, learning to perform it in the prescribed way is also obligatory - and one should know what he/she is saying to his/her Lord.

The Ritual and Spiritual Purity by Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi .exe

The Muslims who lived during the Prophet's time had easy excess to his sunnah. What about us who were born hundreds of years after the Prophet's death? Well, the Muslims of the early days realized the importance of the Prophet's sunnah and started preserving his sayings in books of hadith. Even the actions of the Prophet, observed by the companions, were preserved in writing. But this process of preserving the sunnah of the Prophet was not immune from mistakes and even forgery.

It is knowledge of articles of belief and articles of action.

I tried many religious avenues, but I was never able to satisfy my doubt.

The fifth imam of the school of ahl al-bayt, Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (pbuh) once told one of his students by the name of Jabir: "Is it enough for a person to embellish himself as our shi'a (follower) by professing love for us, the ahl al-bayt?  Nay!  By Allah, a person is not our follower unless he fears Allah and obeys Him.  Our followers are only recognized, O Jabir, by their humility; submission; honesty; abundant praise of Allah, fasting and prayers; goodness to their parents; attention to the poor, needy, debtors, and orphans living nearby; speaking of the truth; recitation of the Qur'an; holding their tongues except for good words; and trustworthiness towards relatives in all affairs."

Full-Length Text The Conception of the Sahaba's Ultimate Decency and the Political Authority in Islam by Ahmed Hussein Ya'qub.exe
By this humble study, I spared no efforts in the field of proving the fact that God's revealed representation is different from our conceiving that representation. I also aimed at proving that the successive collapses which started just after the Prophet's decease and uprooted the political system of Islam peremptorily, were not the result of an error or a shortage in Islam or its eternal jurisprudential formulation. The real reason was the Muslims — the embracers of Islam — who substituted God's grace and judgments for their own fancies and caprices. This is the actual root of misfortunes and, in the same time, it is the setting point towards Allah.
